I met this rider in Sierraville during the RR200 – an Army vet riding a sweet KTM 500. He had a problem on the start – see 1:30 in his video. He was able to get back to DSR, jumped in his Jeep to make a run down to the Ace Hardware in Truckee, drove back up to DSR, then went out and completed the entire B route. Well done, sir!
DDMC club members Andres, Dave, Eric, Blake and Kurt met up in Stonyford for a fun weekend of riding.
On Friday we rode tracks from the 2025 Bearfoot Enduro and on Saturday we rode tracks from the 2024 Jackhammer Enduro.
Mid-summer conditions were great – it was warm at lower elevations and cool at the top of Goat Mountain. Stony Creek was fantastic for an after-ride swim.
The OHV area was mostly empty, which meant we could pick any campsite we wanted. Ours was great.
We also never ran across any other riders on single track, and only one other group on forest service roads.
We planned to ride on Sunday as well but unfortunately I had a conflict so we packed up from camp and left together on Saturday evening. Dave and I stopped off for burritos at Delicias Roberta’s in Williams, which were excellent.
This was a fun summer getaway!
A special thanks to Andres for the tracks and also for this YouTube video:
Dean and Wayne organized a Memorial Weekend club campout in Mina, Nevada. On Saturday Wayne led an adventure ride from camp southwest to go around and through the Excelsior Mountains. The initial few miles going up into the skirt of the mountains from the east were rocky – this was a good challenge for an adventure bike. The route dropped down onto Highway 360 for a couple miles, then turned west onto well-made dirt road just before the Belleville ghost town. Off pavement we entered the BLM’s Wild Burro Range. We stopped to take a look around the Marietta ghost town, which was really cool. For a short time Marietta had several hundred residents, many saloons, stores and a post office. It appears that a few mine caretakers may still live in Marietta. There are still many active mining operations all around the Excelsior and Pilot Mountains.
From Marietta the route proceeded west over improving terrain. Wayne split off as we entered Little Huntoon Valley and the bike riders assumed he had taken a wrong turn. Eric followed to check on Wayne while the rest of the riders decided to continue on the main route up into the mountains to wait under the shade from the pine trees near Summit Spring. We found out later that Wayne took a spur trail to visit the Cabin Under the Rock. After waiting for a while the rest of the group continued on the primary route, which was nice for the rest of the ride. The terrain featured sandy two track with a few rock steps here and there, then hard-packed dirt.
The total ride distance was about 90 miles – it was a fun adventure route. Here is a short ride recap video:
The DDMC helped out at the Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) Estates Road Cleanup with teams in Hungry Valley and Golden Valley.
Participants included Eric, Dean and Paul, Dennis, Greg F., Dave G., Kurt and Wayne.
Thanks to Eric for organizing this and also for the excellent grilled burgers back at his place after the cleanup. Also thank you to Eric’s wife Deanna for the fantastic chocolate cake – A+.
