DDMC Reno to Gerlach Dual Sport/ADV Overnight Ride, October 10th-11th
October 10 @ 10:00 am - October 11 @ 5:00 pm
I am working on a dual sport/ADV ride from Reno to Gerlach with an overnight stay at Bruno’s Country Club.
The routes will be more difficult than a typical run up to Gerlach on county roads, which is why I am planning for an overnight stay. Going light will also be the better choice, hence Bruno’s is preferred over camping off the bike. Room reservations at Bruno’s are $72 if you book on their web site.
The target difficulty level for the dual sport route will be A- or B+ (there will be single track) while the target difficulty level for the ADV route will be B or B-.
The routes will start and end at Bully’s on Pyramid Highway and Eagle Canyon Road in Sparks. The outbound route will go through Moon Rocks and the Dogskin Mountains, head east to Sutcliffe for a hydration break, then continue on to Gerlach through a combination of the Smoke Creek Desert and the Fox Range.
The return route will traverse the Black Rock Desert (just because) and then head south through the Selenite and Nightingale Mountains, with a hydration break in Nixon. I believe there is a dirt route back to Sparks from Nixon, but I need to check it out. If the dirt route does not work out there is always the tarmac option.
While we are in the Black Rock Desert we might run a “650 Showdown” drag race…a few club members have modified 650s. Maybe we’ll let anyone in the bracket, regardless of displacement.
If this sounds like it might be fun to you, save the date.
