ModeratorGetting back to the content of the video, I sort of agree that the KTM 390 and 790 and Honda TransAlp are game-changing bikes for 2023. Although you could argue that the T7 was more of a game-changer than any of them and we’ve had it in the US since 2020.
I’m not convinced that the Stark Varg will really be important. I don’t see a lot of people paying more than a KTM for one of those, especially in 2023. Maybe in 2033 if the company is still around?

ParticipantI’ve got a deposit on the stark varg. I’m already 9 months overdue on delivery, and I’m having my doubts on the company and their follow through. I ordered this thing over a year and a half ago. Something about the lack of maintenance, 80 hp, and gazillion lbs of torque caused me to make the deposit. I doubt I will follow through with the purchase at this point, but I really want to ride this thing.

ModeratorYeah, I agree that the Varg is a super cool and apparently very capable bike. With 80 HP you should be able to smoke any 450 on it, at least in a straight line.
It is being marketed as an MX race bike since Stark claims it has enough range to finish a pro 30+2 MX race.
However, I doubt the AMA would allow the Varg to be raced in pro MX unless Honda, Yamaha, KTM+, Kawasaki and Suzuki all had their own electric MX bikes too. I guess that is inevitable at this point? Maybe 2025, 2030?

ParticipantI agree on the AMA not allowing it to compete. However, I think they probably should, considering the rate of mx tracks closing around the world because of noise. In addition, I think most of us agree (whether we like it or not), that electric is the future. So if the AMA wants to stay relevant and up to date, they should give the electric industry a way in. Then again motocross seems a lot less interesting with no noise.
The motocross guys who tested this thing were getting faster lap times on the varg than they were on the new 450’s, and that was on the 60hp version.
I probably sound like a Varg fan boy, and I guess I must be. Just give me a clutch please.

ModeratorI love MX and am planning to get back into the sport. The Varg and eBikes from the major manufacturers could actually boost the popularity of MX in the long run since the sport will be more accessible. Tracks could be built closer to town.
eBikes won’t help enduro, cross country and desert racers though – their races are a lot longer than 35 miles. I guess they can adapt and have shorter races like MX? Hey, if the Baja 1000 becomes the Baja 40 maybe I will even try it, ha.
