Kurt138ModeratorThis is a great idea for an ADV ride. The CABDR is a lot closer to Reno than the NVBDR.

RandyParticipantFor those who asked about the paper map I had at the meeting last night, it’s the Northern California Backcountry Discovery Route (BDR) map produced by Butler Maps. You can order it online from Butler Maps, and there are also copies available locally (last I checked) at Nevada Adventure Rentals here in Reno. Butler Maps link: (https://butlermaps.com/products/california-north-backcountry-discovery-route-map-v1)
We’re planning to ride Sections 4, 3, and most of 2 (in that order) on July 10th as a two-day moto-camping trip. Having the map with you will be a really helpful resource for planning, camp options, terrain, elevation changes, and bail-out options, so I recommend picking one up ahead of time.

ParticipantSome updates about the ride:
1. I contacted the Ice House Resort. They’re located about mile 125 into the ride. They have campsites, showers are just up the road, and a restaurant. I figure this would be a good first night stop. I’ve tentatively reserved 2 campsites for the night of the 10th. Campsites are each $36 per night. I told her we’re a group of dual sport motorcyclists on a camping trip and she said “oh, are you riding the BDR?”. I told her yes but riding south. She’ll allow 4 backpacker style tents per site since that’s what we’ll be carrying. She said she’ll hold the sites until early June when we’ll need to confirm them. We’ll need a head count soon.
2. I contacted the Stanislaus National Forest about whether road 7N08 and Moore Creek Campground will be open this season. Moore Creek Campground will be available to us on the dates we plan to be there. He recommended we bring our own toilet paper. Road 7N08, even though it may still be closed to larger vehicles because of debris across the road which they may not have been able to clear by the time we want to ride it, we would be allowed to travel on it on the motorcycles. Also, by then I’m sure there will have been some Norcal BDR riders passing that way with some road reports.
3. We also have an option of staying at the Cooks Station Campground located on Highway 88 about 10 miles west of where we come out onto 88. I spoke to the owner and he’s a KTM rider. If we do this, we have the option of re-routing from Leek Springs area along multiple different USFS roads and end up at Cooks station, avoiding the 10 additional miles on 88. This is still TBD.
4. I’ll provide a tentative itinerary of activities and facilities for reference. Take a look and let me know what you think. Add anything you think relevant.
5. I’ll provide a GPX file of the ride.
This will be a fun ride with great scenery and camaraderie.

ParticipantATTENTION: Randy and I are starting to finalize the ride. I need a confirmation from those of you that have expressed in interest to come along. I’ve confirmed 2 campsites for the first night (Friday) at Ice House Resort. Each site will accommodate 4 backpacker type tents. Because it’s a Friday night, they require a 2-night minimum. Each site is $36 per night, total $144. We’ll split this equally between all who attend. They have a restaurant and bar and showers are available just up the road. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100089691446952 Please message me with your contact info (cell and email) so I can start communicating with all that plan to ride. Thank you!

Kurt138ModeratorHey Jose, I am only planning to tag along for day 1, so you won’t need to budget tent space for me. Thanks!
