Dave GModeratorA good spot is the end of Estates Road in Golden Valley. https://maps.app.goo.gl/REEvD4SNEfGjqath7 is a good place to park if you truck the bike out. A mix of difficulties. Plenty of easy stuff. Generally the wider the trail the easier.
You can connect from there to the OHV area at Chickadee https://maps.app.goo.gl/mUEjSZ4k14moS9J98.
or to the east you get the desert access near Dean’s at Chimney Dr https://maps.app.goo.gl/bhyfJDg4XUXDxnHv8 Which can be interesting on weekends with airsoft, target shooters, abandoned motorhomes etc. This is all connected to the Moon Rocks area. In another post somewhere Eric posted the OHV route through Hungry Valley. It leads up to the area south of Moon Rocks. The main roads through that area are B stuff. There is some sand, but the deep stuff can be avoided. The whole area right around Moon Rocks has many easy trails. Close to the obvious parking/camping spots is the easiest stuff

Kurt138ModeratorWith that distance in mind, and also factoring in how cold and snowy it is elsewhere, I’d just do Moon Rocks.
If you stick to the jeep roads there you’ll be in B territory all day long. It’s a good place to work on technique since you can pick your poison – whoops, sand, hill climbs, turn tracks. The good news is that the dirt there isn’t bad. This time of year it is sometimes even great.
Update: yeah, what Dave said.

ParticipantThere are lots of trails on the east side of Peavine that are B/B-.
Head down Hoge Rd. from Virginia St. north of McCarran until you see the parking area to the right, about 1/2 mile after the pavement ends, and just a couple hundred yards past the last house.
Ignore the map in the parking lot, it shows almost exclusively the no-motorized vehicles single-track for mountain bikes and isn’t very helpful for us.
Similar to Moon Rocks, there are dozens of miles of interconnected trails, so you can loop around for hours and string together a relatively long ride with minimal repetition, but always being just a few miles from the trail head. Peavine is rockier than Moon Rocks though – in my opinion, perfect for building skill, but take it slow when you first hit the trails, there are random baby heads all over the place.
Most of the single-track is no-motorized vehicles, but ALL of the 2-track is open to motorized vehicles except where very clearly marked, so it’s pretty easy to stay on legal trails. In nice weather there are lots of mountain bikes on the single-track, and those trails somewhat frequently cross the 2-track, so stay alert.
There are areas with steep and rocky climbs and descents that might be considered more technical than B/B-, so be alert and back out before you get to a point of no return. These are almost always pretty obvious in advance. I have a couple of times stopped and scouted on foot and was glad I did. I would have made it down, but it would have been hairy. Again, perfect for building skill because there is a large variety of climbs you can practice and repeat.
