I was just out on Winnemucca Ranch rd. yesterday. About 24 miles from where the pavement ends, the road is now blocked with a gate. (see pics) Does anyone know if there is a way around this? Can you still ride through to Doyle?
It’s been that way for a bit. I don’t remember anyone coming up with a route around.
Pretty sure there’s a route headed north from Winnemucca Ranch Rd that comes out near Ft Sage.
We did have a club ride where we attempted to find a new route to Doyle from Reno. I think that ride report is somewhere in our old archives in Tapatalk, unfortunately (we had some pics).
I think we rode to the new locked gate on Winnemucca Ranch Road, then tried to go over the Fort Sage Mountains, following old 4×4 tracks part of the way. The route had promise, none of the hills were real steep. The route would not have been as boring as Winnemucca Ranch Road, for sure. To make that route a reality we would have to go up there with rakes to clear some rocks and grass – to at least mark the track if nothing else. I recall there was an old rusted truck at the bottom of the canyon where we were attempting to find a route. Maybe Dave or Dean remembers. Wayne and Shane were on that ride too.
I guess you could get to Doyle via Fish Springs Road From Highway 445 above Sutcliffe to Fort Sage Road. That’s sounds like a long, boring ride to me though, ha.
I believe that’s Homestead ranch road and no there is no way around the gate. You made a left off of Winnemucca Ranch to get there. Winnemucca ranch road will run into Fish Spring road from there you turn left to Doyle. The whole Dry Valley area is private property owned by one of the big ranches. I would expect more gates to show up in the future. They cut down all the trees in a lot of that area.
