There were a few ideas discussed at the February club meeting. This loop route around Battle Mountain was mentioned. The link below has some good details, including videos, gps, resources, etc. by a group affiliated with Rocky Mountain ATV. I’m more of…”where’s the hotel and pub” option but if you’re into motocamping this might be something to consider.
Randy
I am in for this ride – it looks like RM did their homework on the route. I also would prefer to ‘go light’ and hotel it if possible. The closest the RM route comes to highways out of Reno is either Eureka or Austin going east or Battle Mountain going north. To save time I might be in favor of trucking the bikes out to one of those connection points. Alternatively, perhaps we could add an offroad section to get out to the RM route directly from Reno? That would add a day to the total trip time, figuring on time going out and returning.
We talked about this briefly in the club meeting. Randy wanted plenty of time to plan for this ride, so we were thinking of an August or September time frame. Looking at the route, which is very remote, I think camping off the bike may be the best (only) option. For that reason I’d rather go when the nights are warm. September may be too cold for camping IMHO.
Randy, I am in for this one since I have not covered some of the Far East Nevada areas. I looked at the videos and GPS tracks. You got a date for the ride and the logistics for it?
Randy late August would be great. Also, we could elimate the drive to Wendover and stage at Battle Mountain, since it is a loop ride. I am available to help you with any support you need. I will use my toy hauler for getting my gear and bikes to what ever staging location you choose. Reno Deano
