ParticipantCool! One thing I need to understand is how to ride faster on dirt/gravel. On the club ride this past weekend, my riding was better but when we hit Ft. Churchill road, I was still timid. Not sure what to do different.

Hey Jason, I think you already know how to ride fast on gravel or other slippery surfaces from the master himself – Shane Watts’ flat track drill.
Having said that, Fort Churchill Road IMHO is not the place to ride fast or to practice your flat track skills. Recently I was surprised by a sedan going 35 mph on the wrong side of the road around a blind turn there. I would just cruise on Fort Churchill Road and stay well over to the right.
Speaking more generally, county roads that are graded and covered with gravel are designed for cars and are boring. Any modern dual sport or adventure bike, even a GS1300, can handle tough jeep roads or even single track. That’s where we want to be. You’ll still get plenty of opportunities to practice your flat tracking as flat turns with limited traction aren’t hard to find wherever we go.

Kurt138ModeratorThanks Kurt!
Greg F and I got together at Chickadee yesterday afternoon. Greg got the new Tractionator tires on his KTM390. We did some sand riding, turning drills, rut riding and then just did some laps on the different tracks. It was a good couple hours.
That sounds great! I’ll hook up with you guys at some point…I’m probably riding Track Town next weekend.
I probably won’t hit Track Town this weekend – I crashed my mountain bike and bruised my knee yesterday. Note to self – chill out on the mountain bike.
