ModeratorThis looks like a very nice area to camp: Walker River State Recreation Area. The camp could be the trailhead for a ride to Bodie. There is access to the south to a lot of OHV trails as well. I’d like to check this out.

ParticipantThanks Dean, this looks great.
You beat me to posting the camping weekend at Stampede/Boca area for June that I’d volunteered to organize at a past meeting. The only weekend in June I was able to make this happen on my calendar was for June 10, 11 & 12.
With that said, I’d love to go somewhere different to explore and I love what you and Kurt have posted.
I’d be totally up for putting Stampede/Boca on the back burner for another time and instead opting for the Walker River State Recreation Area.
Thoughts?

ModeratorHey Brett,
How about if a plan was in place for either location on June 10-12? Then this summer when California is on fire we could go to the one that isn’t smoked out.
That said, if smoke is not an issue and I had to pick between the two I think I’d pick Walker River, since I’ve never been there. That’s just my $.02.

ModeratorI am in for a dry camp, and I’m going to see if my wife can come (she normally works weekends). If Maura is with me we will bring our mountain bikes also.

ModeratorFYI, I just checked with Walker River and only group site camping can be reserved. If there isn’t enough space in our group site the remaining camping is available on a first-come first-serve basis – no reservations.
