Greg RParticipantCount me in to do it sometime. The route starts just maybe 15 minutes southeast from my house.
Kurt said that he explored it while scouting the Top Gun / Middlegate route and reported that he came up with gps tracks that have a couple of alternates along the route.
The Wild Horse route is shown on onX, but maybe Kurt could share his tracks as well as his DDMC ride ranking?

Kurt138ModeratorChris and I rode from Dayton to Churchill on a route that went through Bull Canyon and Mill Canyon. I assume that is AKA Wild Horse Canyon? I would give it a B ride ranking. It has some good dirt and easy up and down climbs through Junipers near Dayton. There is an approximately 1 mile section with baby head rocks in the middle of it. While the trail is not anything special, it is way more interesting than riding Fort Churchill Road between the same two points.
I’ll post a GPX file that includes Wild Horse Canyon on Dave’s “Get Acquainted” ride thread. A Wild Horse Canyon ride is not interesting enough to be a Club Ride by itself, but it is a useful connector to Churchill or the north end of the Pine Nuts.

Greg RParticipantKurt , thanks …good information.
In looking at the Wild Horse trail on onX, Wild Horse generally runs easterly and connects with Clifton Flat Trail as it approaches the 95A.
It looks like you bypassed the second half of the Wild Horse trail by taking a fork-in-the-road left turn that head northeast toward Bull Canyon.
I’ll check out the GPX file.

Kurt138ModeratorHey Greg, I posted a GPX file for a route from Carson City to Yerington and back to Dayton via Bull Canyon in the “Get Acquainted” ride thread here. Aside from the Bull Canyon part the rest of the route is copied from the 2025 RR200 B Route.

ModeratorJose mentioned the “Maze”. There are so many single tracks in that area, we could just ride around in there for a day.

ModeratorI would also like to try the Ellis Peak Trail in Tahoe.
It is a pretty difficult trail with switchbacks and shelves.

Kurt138ModeratorI added a possible Virgin Valley Camp & Ride to the first post in this thread for October.
The DDMC was there last year in late September. The camping was great (thanks to the warm springs swimming pool). The riding was so-so. We rode up to the B-24 crash site and out to some abandoned cabins. The crash site was really cool but the riding was somewhat rocky and not memorable.
I would like to give this area another look because I think we can find good dirt close to the campground. My plan this year is to go up there some time in advance and set up a 5-10 mile dual sport loop that features good dirt and bermed turns. There is also great adventure riding east of Fields out through the Alvord Desert. The area has lots of potential, it just needs some good trails.
UPDATE: I am thinking about combining this with a visit to the Prospect OHV Area in Oregon. Prospect has probably the closest good riding in the Cascade Range to Reno.
There is also the option to attend the Black Dog Dual Sport Ride on September 26th-27th or just plan our own rides on another date. Andres has tracks for the area.
Great riding in Prospect + great camping at Virgin Valley. What’s not to like?
UPDATE: I talked with Dave about this. He noted that central Oregon doesn’t really work with a visit to Virgin Valley – the warm springs are too far east of the best route up to Prospect. It might make more sense to look at other options that are more accessible for the club.
