DDMC Stonyford Camp & Ride, June 19-20, 2026

DDMC club members Andres, Dave, Eric, Blake and Kurt met up in Stonyford for a fun weekend of riding. We all traveled light, arriving in trucks or vans/SUVs – no trailers. Dave and Andres rode Beta 390s, Blake rode his XR400, Eric rode his DR-Z4s and I rode my KLX450. While there are trails here for big bikes, you’ll have more fun with a single track-capable bike at Stonyford.

On Friday we rode tracks from the 2025 Bearfoot Enduro and on Saturday we rode tracks from the 2024 Jackhammer Enduro. Some of the trails hadn’t been touched in a while, especially on the Jackhammer. Andres and I moved one downed tree and worked around several others on the Jackhammer track.

Mid-summer conditions were great – it was warm at lower elevations and cool at the top of Goat Mountain. Stony Creek was fantastic for an after-ride swim.

The OHV area was mostly empty, which meant we could pick any campsite we wanted. We considered camping in Fouts Springs, then settled on an area at the end of Middle Creek Campground, right next to a great swimming hole in the creek.

We also never ran across any other riders on single track, and only saw one other group on forest service roads. I saw a mule deer fawn on a single track trail – he was startled, but scampered away safely. A kingfisher was busy working the creek by our campsite and a couple acorn woodpeckers kept up an enjoyable racket overhead during the day. The scene was very peaceful, especially compared to how busy this area can be for the fall enduro races.

We planned to ride on Sunday as well but unfortunately I had an unplanned conflict. We decided to break camp and left together on Saturday evening. On the way home Dave and I stopped off for burritos at Delicias Roberta’s in Williams, which were excellent.

This was a fun summer getaway!

It was a great weekend. I did not take any pictures. We had single track, 2 track, hill climbs, bushes, more bushes, shrubbery, ruts, rocks, a waterfall, a lake, wildlife, sun, water, little bitey fish and fun.

The trails were great. No sand to speak of. Hardpack and rocks. The whoops were deep but closely spaced. We got pretty lucky with the weather so dust and heat weren’t a big problem.

Worth the trip.

This whole weekend reminded me of the sunset at Kilimanjaro. (Which is an inside joke.)

Has anyone mentioned the bushes? The ruts were the worst. The scenery was great. The swimming hole was fantastic. The homicidal fish were just okay. The weather was perfect. I guess I found the divorce button! (Another inside joke. You had to be there.) Well, there’s always next year.

Ruts, you say? Stonyford is a popular riding area in the winter and some of the ruts get pretty deep.
