The link above indicates that RAD’s project should be complete by now. Maybe we should check out the single track there? Or has someone already ridden it?
BTW, the Moon Rocks OHV improvement project is also underway and scheduled to finish by January 1st, 2026:
I’ve been on about half of the single track referenced. It’s a small area, but great riding and some spectacular views. There’s a really cool creek crossing, and some pretty challenging hill climbs. Plus it’s a short detour on my main route from Bordertown to Stampede.
As far as the name, people from cold springs seem to call it dog valley, the road I usually take is Mitchell Canyon.
Kurt, it definitely depends on the season, and the area. There are decomposed granite slabs and loose sand, there aren’t too many rocks out there. There are some dirt areas as well that can be muddy when wet and a couple of small roots and logs to contend with. Overall, I would say the hill climbs are anywhere from a 2-7 depending on the weather moisture.
Kurt, take your single-track bike and you will have a blast. In the summer, start early as the south face of Peavine gets hot. I have ridden it all a lot, and it is fun.
