I’m really glad you will be joining us on this epic ride – I’ll have those soft bags ready for you.
I haven’t checked out the hotels at our stops in Battle Mountain, Wendover or Eureka yet, but there are a good number of options at each of those places.
The Outdoor Inn has 6 rooms in their main hotel, and an additional 10 rooms at another building they call The Barn. The rooms in the main hotel are $85, while the rooms in the barn are $69 . The Barn is cheaper because there is only a shared bathroom down the hall. They only open The Barn if the main hotel is full. You can reach The Outdoor Inn at (775) 488-2311.
The Tsawhawbits B&B has 5 rooms available for $100, but breakfast is included. You can reach the Tsawhawbits B&B at (775) 488-2338.
I chose to save a couple bucks and reserved a room at The Outdoor Inn on October 8th.
The longest distance to gas on this entire route is 188 miles. With fuel injection and a 5 gallon tank on your XCX you won’t need to carry an extra fuel bladder.
Here is the daily distance to gas breakdown:
Day 1, Reno to Battle Mountain: total distance 269 miles, gas available at Middlegate Station 125 miles in as well as in Battle Mountain
Day 2, Battle Mountain to Jarbidge: total distance 187 miles, gas available in Jarbidge
Day 3, Jarbidge to Wendover: total distance 219 miles, gas available in Montello 162 miles in as well as in Wendover
Day 4, Wendover to Eureka: total distance 188 miles, gas available in Eureka
Day 5, Eureka to Reno: total distance 258 miles, gas available at Middlegate Station 129 miles in
The total mileage for this adventure is only 1121 miles.
I will take you up on the “gas bag”, even though I should be able to do 195 miles.
I will be trailering my bike out to Middlegate to meet up with you on the 7th of OCT.
I have made the following motel reservations:
OCT 7th – BIG CHIEF MOTEL – BATTLE MOUNTIAN
OCT 8th – OUTDOOR INN – JARBIDGE
OCT 9th – QUALITY INN – WENDOVER
OCT 10TH – SUNDOWN LODGE – EUREKA
OCT 11th -I will be stopping at Middlegate to collect my truck & trailer.
Hey Dean, I got reservations at the same hotels as you in Battle Mountain, Wendover and Eureka (plus I already got a reservation at The Outdoor Inn in Jarbidge).
Hey Kurt and Dean. Thanks for doing the planning. I appreciate the effort that goes into setting up a ride. I’m in for Stage 1 then back to Reno the next day on Sunday. I’ve made my reservation at the Big Chief so I’m all set. I’ll be on the 1290.
I recently passed through Jarbridge on my BDR trip and can highly recommend the homemade pie and ice cream at the Outdoor Inn. Wish I could be part of that leg but with all the time off I’ve taken recently I have to be back at work Monday morning.
Randy
Kurt, I am in for the first day and have made a reservation at the Big Chief motel. I’ll be riding the 1290. Looking forward to it…thanks for the planning. Wish I could do the whole thing but I can’t take anymore time off from work presently.
Randy
Hey Kurt, I’ve got to stay in Reno 10/9-10 for work (some people flying in from NYC so I can’t postpone), so I won’t be able to join this ride. Have a blast; I hope to join the next one.
