Greg RParticipantThat is indeed a cool looking bridge…I did not know that was there. I’ll follow-up bout bridge access, as well.

Kurt138ModeratorThe bridge has been there for as long as I can remember. I checked in March this year and the road going to the bridge had a locked gate on it, so I assume that is what changed:
I think the bridge is great if you want to chill out on that little beach on the Carson River.
I’m not really interested in access to/from Fort Churchill Road though. Some riders like Fort Churchill Road, I’m just not one of them. Chris and I rode trails on the other side of the Carson River that are a much more enjoyable way to get from Dayton to Davis Flat (Highway 95A). Here is a screenshot that shows a route to Yerington that comes back via the trails on the south side of the Carson River:
The GPX file for the above route is attached to this post in another thread.

Kurt138ModeratorChris and I also tried to ride trails hugging the south side of the Carson River, but they were fenced off in several places. I’m not sure crossing that bridge will actually get you into the Pine Nut Mountains or to Highway 95A – maybe?
The bridge is in the center of this topo map screenshot.

ModeratorI got a response from the parks dept. and it looks promising.
Good Morning Eric,
There has not been any definitive plans made for this park quite yet. We will be opening up a few surveys for the public to give their input on what they want to see happen with the park and the amenities we should offer. BLM access from that bridge has certainly been discussed internally, but we will need to seek public input first.
Please stay on the lookout for those public surveys. Last I heard, we plan to have one out by October, but timelines always change.
Best,
Tyler Kerver

Kurt138ModeratorGood work Eric.
It is interesting to find out which agencies are really helpful, and which agencies are not. Nevada State Parks might be one of the good ones. Walker River SRA is a good example of their work I’d say.
