Old Hwy 49 Street Ride

I am planning an All-Pavement, overnight ride down HWY 49 on August 19th.

The Plan: Meet at the Bordertown Resort (395 N.) Saturday morning at 9am.  Take 49 from 70 (near Vinton) to Nevada City for lunch. Next, continue South on 49 to Jackson CA. I plan to stay at The Jackson Lodge (the only hotel with a pool). On Sunday head down to Angle’s Camp and take the “Ebbetts Pass” road (hwy 4) back over the mountain to Lake Tahoe. The closest lunch stop is Sorensen’s Café on 89, or South Lake.

Day one is about 220 miles. Day two is about 200 miles.

OK if I just ride down to Auburn with you? I only have that Saturday free.

I would like to ride down to Auburn on 49, then ride back the same way (or on 80) to get back to Reno.

Can’t make the ride, but here are some ideas that you may want to consider. Saturday after Auburn take 49 south to 193. Take that to Georgetown then Wentworth Springs road to Ice House road to 50 to Mormon Emigrant trail to North South road to Omo Ranch road to Mt Aukum road to Plymouth and back on 49 to Jackson.

Sunday Morning take 88 east to 26 to West Point then Railroad Flat road to Sheep Ranch road to Murphys and there you will be back on 4.

There is food in Lake Alpine. I went there for lunch today. I liked it. There is also food in Markleeville at the Cutthroat Brewing co. I have not been there for a few years by I think that it is still good.

Hey Rick, can you recommend a good lunch place in Nevada City?

I have no recommendations in Nevada City. It is somewhat of a tourist town. Last time I was there, maybe 10 years ago, the traffic and parking issues sucked. I would look for a place near the highway or ride on to Auburn.

During one of the Reno to Pacific rides and on the return leg we overnighted at the Nevada City Inn and up the street away, we ate at Nevada City Ale House & Family Restaurant (Jernigan’s) and the food was very good.

Mad Dogs Woodfords at the intersection of Hwys 88 & 89 is a good deli cafe. Also, there are two cafes in Markleeville that are good.

Hey Dean, Eric wrote that the ride will be on Highway 49 in post #2411. That must just be a typo in the thread headline.

It looks like there will be nice weather on Saturday – in the high 80s in Nevada City.

I may be able to do some of Saturdays route but I have a question. Is the 9:00 am the time the ride starts down the road or the time we meet for breakfast.
