ModeratorI have limited vacation time (gotta save some days for my wife) so I might just ride down to Williams with you guys. On Sunday the 9th I assume the group will go past Stony Ford/Fouts Springs? I would like to split off there to go up Letts Ridge, then return back to Reno.

ParticipantHi Dave
Looks like me and George will be along but doing it a little different. We plan on trucking our bikes to Williams on the 8th, leaving the truck there and doing a 3 day ride. Trucking back to Reno on the 11th or maybe the 12th.

ModeratorHas anyone ridden from Fortuna to Reno in one day via Highway 36? That would be over 300 miles, but all pavement and I think on some nice curvy roads.
I am thinking of doing that and hanging with you guys through the first two nights in Williams and Fortuna, then returning to Reno on tarmac. Lots of riding for the cost of only one vacation day. =^)

ParticipantI did it about 6 or 7 years ago. I was on the GS so it was easy except for the heat. It was in July and about 105 in Red Bluff.
Check on any construction delays that will slow you down.

ModeratorThanks Rick – I’ll check into that. Hopefully construction season will be winding down by October.

ParticipantDave, can you clarify the dates? I see the link has Oct 8, however dates aren’t in the post and Randy has mentioned Sept 11. Thanks, Brett

ModeratorI’ve got to figure out notifications.
Saturday 10/8 is the start date.
Saturday – Williams
Sunday – Fortuna
Monday- Fort Bragg
Tuesday – Williams again
Wed ride home.Nothing set in stone yet.
Rick has come up with a pretty good route from Covelo to Fortuna. Stuff we haven’t done before. Looks like a mix of dirt roads and pavement. Should be great.

ModeratorI’d still like to hit a side piece on Day 2 if that’s OK – going up Letts Ridge in the Stonyford OHV area. After that I will get back on the route, hopefully catching up to the rest of the group at lunch (or at the hotel in Fortuna). Letts Ridge is about a 6 mile climb, with a very steep and rutted last mile. If anyone else wants to have a crack at Letts Ridge you’re welcome to come with me.
Dave can you post the map files for the week?

ModeratorI’ll post gpx files as soon as I have them complete.
I have ridden Reno to Fortuna in a day on 36. The section from Red Bluff to Fortuna is 130+miles and has no gas I believe.
On my DR I can carry a spare can (1.3 gallons). I can bring that and you can strap it on for the ride home if you like. Then you wouldn’t have to haul it up Letts Ridge.August 25, 2022 at 11:43 am #1505Kurt138
ModeratorThanks for the info on 36 Dave.
I will bring my Giant Loop gas bag, so don’t worry about bringing your extra gas can.
I usually can get about 155 miles per tank on tarmac, but better safe than sorry.

ModeratorHere are the initial tracks. Day 1 is also day 4. There is some new stuff on Day 2 that I don’t think we have done before (Thanks Rick).
I didn’t include pavement bailouts as they are pretty easy to figure out.Kurt wants to do Lett’s Ridge on Day 2, if we run this clockwise he wouldn’t be far from the group and the more adventurous could do that “hard way” also. What does everyone think? That would make it Williams – Ft Bragg – Fortuna – Williams. Or we can keep it the usual
Total ride distance? I don’t know.
