ParticipantWould be interested if the trail is not too difficult. I have heard it is loose and rocky.

ParticipantProbably not a good trail for you Dennis. Loose rocky and steep.

ParticipantDoes anyone have videos they could share of the “rocky and steep” portions of the way to Hunter Lake? I am interested to head up there in a month or so. Real goal is to probably ride as far as I can then hike to some specific areas just to the west of Snowblower Mountain. I found some lat/long coordinates a couple weeks ago designating the area my brother and I dumped my dad’s cremation ashes from a light aircraft in 1986. Looked them up and indeed just west of Snowblower Mountain. Not sure though I can handle either the steep and rocky on my Honda 300 or a rather long day if the hike portion is too much. Probably just dreaming.
Also, is access possible from the west, Iceland Road, etc?
Anyhow, thanks,

ParticipantGoogle maps calls it Sunflower Mountain, but I saw elsewhere that it really is Snowflower Mountain. (Certainly not Snowblower Mountain as I have above!!!!!)
Sorry about that, and thanks if you have some input!

ParticipantThe easiest access would be from Boom Town off Garrison road. Iceland is not a good option.

ModeratorHi Phil
Video I made 10 years ago. Quality sucks by today’s standards. There isn’t really anything too steep if you stay on the main trail. It’s got a few big rock gardens though.

ParticipantMany thanks to raceu2 and Dav G. Looks like the trail stops about 1/2 mile or so from where I want to walk around a bit. Hopefully in a month or two my replaced knee will be ready for a adventure. I’ll let folks know via the Dust Devils communique and see if anyone wants to go with me.
Thanks much,

ParticipantThis should probably be a new post, but I want to keep the relevant communication we have had thus far (in this post) – and I’m not sure how to copy relevant stuff and start a new post.
So, this post continues the string about me wanting to ride to the area just west of Snowflower Mountain.
So, per “raceu2” input, yesterday I went about five miles on NF-100 starting in Boom Town off of Boomtown Garston Road. If the rest of the way is pretty much like the first five miles then I should have no problem navigating through the rocks. I was in first gear though several times. It looks as though the whole trip appears to be about 20 miles one way. Would probably stop at the point where NF-100 turns west from its long journey south. Then, hike for no more than 30 minutes (one way) toward Snowblower Mountain (I don’t intend to try to get to the top). I won’t do this though without a fellow rider.
So, if anyone is interested, let me know. We would meet at the gas station at Boomtown when the time comes. I would like to go either this Thursday, Saturday, or next week Monday or Tuesday (yes, I’m 65 and have no job at this time – some call it “retired”). My phone number is 775-843-5019, email relieflp@yahoo.com.
Thanks,
