I planned a ride East (away from the snow) towards Fallon. I rode there for many years, so I’m pretty familiar with the trails. The route from Reno will take us up to Virginia City, down Six Mile Canyon and Ft. Churchill rd. After crossing HWY 95, there is about 30 miles of desert around Lahontan State park. Our lunch destination is the Diversion Dam on the Carson River. Then, we’re climbing to the top of Red Mountain for some views. After that, we’ll pick our way through the Dead Camel mountains and back to the Simpson rd.
This would be considered a “B” ride. Most of the roads are hard packed clay. There is some sand (not as much as in Hungry Valley), woops, hill climbs, rocks and alkali areas. The length is roughly 165 miles, so bring your lunch. (100 miles from gas to gas)
We will meet at the Maverik station on Veterans Pkwy & Geiger Grade at 9 am Saturday April 22nd.
I originally thought of this as an overnight trip. If it gets too long we can turn around at any time. There are some good lunch stops along the way. We’ll play it by ear. I don’t want to burn anyone out this early in the season. Thanks for the comments.
I folks, I won’t to there in the morning. I just finished up installing the Rally Raid fork kit on my CRF300L and would like to check it out a little bit closer to home.
