I am headed out Long Valley rd. on Thursday May 11th. I don’t know where I’m going, just seeing what roads are open. If anyone is interested, let me know. We can meet up at Boarder Town. Thanks for reading.
If you can find an offroad route from Bordertown to Hallelujah Junction or Vinton (the junction of Highways 70 and 49) that would be useful. It would allow us to skip riding 395 between Bordertown and Hallelujah Junction on either the way out or back to/from the Plumas National Forest. There is a lot of great riding there.
I have tried going North from Dog Valley rd.(see map) but I run into a blocked road with No Trespassing signs. I thing everything North of that area is private land. The red arrow is where the road is blocked.
It seems like it is getting harder to leave Reno on dirt every year.
To get to the Plumas NF we can ride on dirt to Loyalton via various routes through the Tahoe NF – once the snow clears. From Loyalton to Vinton I’ve just ridden on tarmac on Highway 49, but I think that tarmac section could be cancelled out as well.
It usually works best to ride dirt through the Tahoe NF to get to the Plumas NF, then after riding in the Plumas NF just ride back to Reno from Hallelujah Junction on Highway 395. That highway stint is a little tough on a dirt-oriented dual sport.
What always confuses me about that gate is on all the maps I looked at, that gate is on Forest Service Land and on a forest service road. Is there a name and number on the no-trespassing sign?
I would sure love to have that road as access but I have run into private land coming in the other direction as well.
