Today I did a training ride at Track Town, which is in the North Reno Recreation Area.
I rolled in to Track Town at about 10:15 AM and was the first person there. Other riders started trickling in during the day and there were about 20 riders there when I left just before 3.
Rain was forecast but aside from a few dozen drops, it didn’t happen. An overnight rain shower might have been nice to help soften up the usual sandy hardpack, but I can’t really complain, it was a beautiful day for a Sunday ride.
I decided to just work on tight turn tracks…I feel like these are a great skill builder. Turn tracks are fun too, at least to me.
I switched between three different tracks. One is all 2nd gear and is narrow and slippery, but also really fun to roll at low RPMs. The second has mostly 1st gear turns that are deeply rutted – I found it hard to complete an entire lap without popping out of a rut somewhere. The third is a little more wide open – 2nd or 3rd gear – but you have to make your own berms.
I did several motos where I would ride 6-8 laps on each track, then go back to the truck for a break.
Here is short video showing how the day went:
If anyone else wants to work on their turns I’ll probably post more impromptu rides like this soon.
Kurt, looks like a great day! It’ll be good to get out and work on rut riding. That is the thing that plagued me most in the training. Keeping the front wheel in the rut and engaged. Thanks for posting!
